Along with the many great books children can get from the library in the summer, the American Library Services for Children (ALSC) has Recommended Reading Lists.

MackinVIA has many great ebooks students have free access to! More to be available this summer.  The username is the students’ network username and the password is their last name - first letter capitalized.

The DeForest Public Library has great resources available.

May 23rd

We are in the final stretch!!!  We will be working hard to finish up our units on social issues and journalism.  We have completed our final unit in math and will move on to completing a designing unit with area and volume.

WOW!  We have been busy!!
We ended a unit in math, began a new one, had a ground breaking ceremony, a jog-a-thon, and we had poetry sessions.


Things we are going to do next week:
Monday: Early Release: Students dismissed at 12:55. Teachers head to WES to collaborate with other 4th grade teachers in the district.

Tuesday:  Head over to the Middle School to shadow a fifth grader for the morning. We will leave at 8:15 and return at 11:30.


Friday: We will take our first Reading WI Forward assessment.

This class was awesome on the WI test tests.  They worked hard and did their best.
They are being troopers about the poetry unit and do a great job!!!

WELCOME BACK!!!

We had a good day!
W are beginning lots of new things.  In Reading and Writing we will be studying  POETRY.  In math we are looking at reflections and transitions of objects.  We looked at the rule for spelling...i before e except after c.

We will be taking the Wisconsin Forward exam next week...please think about donating a snack for our testing days.

BUSINESS ADVENTURES

We are building financial opportunities through business plans.  This month we have worked on economic understanding.  Students worked together to create a business idea and had to create a way to present their ideas.

Monday, Feb. 29th

WOW!!!!   It is almost MARCH!!!!  We have begun many new thing this week.  We started our Financial Literacy Unit.  Ask about spending, income, savings, and  budgets.  We will have visitors to teach us more on Friday from the Alliant Energy Center.

In reading we have begun an Authors Study.  In writing we will become literary essayists!

This week (on Thursday) we will test unit 8 in math.  We have worked on area and perimeter.

Thank you for your help!

Most students have completed their book reviews and are all caught up....February's is due March 1st.

We have begun Unit 8 in Math and are looking at area and perimeter.  Students got to measure out their own kitchen and check for efficiency.

We have moved on to magnets in Science and will be having some experiments tomorrow!!

In reading we looked deeply at character attributes and the evidence that goes with each attribute.

We have had a great day.  We worked hard and we were able to celebrate Valentine's Day with our class!!!!

We have begun our mystery unit and looking deeper at comparing and contrasting topics.  Students are doing a great job.

We took our unit 7 assessment today as well.  On Monday we will begin unit 8.

Indoor recess is for the birds!

We have been stuck inside this week and it has not been fun.  It has been too cold to go outside and we suffer in class.  We have had some difficult afternoons.  Students are very chatty and the volume has gone out of control!
BUT.....We are doing some interesting wring about comparing and contrasting.  We will begin some mystery stories tomorrow and use our stills to solve the puzzle.

In Math we will assess our understanding on unit 7 on Friday.

We made Salt and Pepper dance!   Ask your child what we did in science to make it happen....hint: balloon, wool, salt and pepper!

We have been finishing up our informational books and they are looking good!  Most students chose to type them and add their text features from the internet.  Ask them who they researched.

Wednesday. Jan. 27th

WOW!!!!  We have been fast at work.
In reading we are working on creating debates for our American Revolution topics.  Ask your child what side are they on...Patriots or Loyalists.
In writing we have been working on our chapters about a famous person.  Each child is reading, researching, skimming and scanning facts for the chapters.

In Math we are working on FRACTIONS and Probability!!!!  We have been exploring parts of a whole.  What is 2/3 of 21?  Your child should know....

All students MUST read at home!!  They do not get lots of homework from me because I want them reading and working on math practice.

Friday, Jan. 22nd

MRS. WISKE'S last day!!!

We were able to spend a fun day saying goodbye to Mrs. Wiske.  We played games and had a pizza party in her honor!!  (THANK YOU MR. BERGMAN and Pizza Hut!!!)

We will be alone with Mrs. Marek  for the remaining half of year.  Mrs. Wiske will be missed...but maybe she will be subbing for us at Eagle Point!!


On Monday we will begin unit 7 in math.  We switch students around from teacher to teacher each unit to best meet the needs of our learners.  It has been successful so far and we are pleased to see that the students have responded well to each teacher.

Thursday, January 15th

Although it was still chilly out today, the kids got to go outside and enjoy some much needed fresh air at recess!

Today, we spent a lot of time learning about how to write narrative non-fiction stories. The students have been very busy writing mini informational books.

During Social Studies we watched the movie My Brother Martin, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. day on Monday.

We sent home book orders today, the due date is January 22nd. Please remember that tonight is dough night, enjoy a night off from cooking :)

What a long week.  We have been stuck inside at recess...but tomorrow we are expecting to head outside!!!

We created play dough maps of WI we will add our key elements to and bring home to share.

On Friday January 22nd we have a FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM day and a celebration for the last day of teaching for Mrs. Wiske as a student teacher!

We have had a good week.  We had indoor recess today and we were able to have a few games of ping pong..... Carter was champ for the day!!!

We continued our work on the American Revolution and discussed the Boston Tea Party.  We have research teams and we are busy looking up important events that lead to the American Revolution.

We only have Mrs. Wiske for 9 more school days. :(  She will officially leave us on the 22nd.  (but we hope she will come back to sub and help us before the end of the year.)

We will be testing Unit 6 in math soon...we looked at angles today and will continue to practice our division. We need to know our multiplication facts to do division....so keep practicing.

"Snowball" fight for writing??

We were able to have a "snowball fight" in writing class....what??

We had paper "snowballs" with words on them and when the time was called each student needed three "snowballs" and had to incorporate them into a story.  CREATIVE writing in a fun way!!!
